Following are the Komoot maps of my E-Bike European Tour with my dog Zuri from 2019.
I tried to follow the EuroVelo 8. But mostly I relied on the route guidance of Komoot, because it was hard to see on the smartphone screen where exactly the EuroVelo 8 leads. In retrospect, I was often on much too busy roads, which was exhausting and often really dangerous and therefore not recommended for anyone. It is a pity that Komoot does not automatically lead you to the EuroVelo 8 if it is available.

Wow, once again a very exhausting day lay ahead of us. In Croatia the bicycle navigation sap Komoot is not so reliable anymore. It leads us through meadows and stick and stone up to 1400 meters by mountain bike path. Not exactly the easiest way for a bicycle with trailer. On the mountain Vojak it also starts to thunderstorms and after all the effort we can’t really find a place to sleep in Rijeka….

After spending a short night in the middle of the city of Rijeka, we continue our trip to the island of Krk. My bicycle navigation app Komoot leads us again up mountains and down stairs… On the island of Krk we learn what mass tourism means. The cars are piling up and riding a bike is getting more and more exhausting. But there is a sweet surprise waiting for me and my dog Zuri in Malinska. We meet the mayor of a small town near Ljubljana who saw us in Ljubljana a week before. He invites us for ice cream, cake and drinks before we go snorkeling….

After a night at the Nudistbeach in Rab, Zuri and I visit Monty’s Dog Beach on Rab and then drive back to the Croatian mainland. We sleep another night outside on the beach and then continue by bike to Zadar.

Let’s continue. We always cycle along the coastal road from Croatia to the south. The roads are long and we are constantly overtaken by cars, trucks or coaches. The tourist season is in full swing in Croatia and that makes cycling on the roads difficult. That I ride the official EuroVelo 8, I notice only at isolated signs on fat country roads I am also going snorkeling for the third and last time on this trip and it is also disappointing here, because there are hardly any fish in the sea…

My dog Zuri and I follow the EuroVelo 8 in Croatia further and further south. We visit the city of Trogir and Split. We also drive some hours through the hinterland of Croatia and it is amazing to see how different life seems to be when you are not in the tourist coastal hotspots.
The roads in Croatia are not very bicycle-friendly and there are many cars on the road. But this stage contains also times again a mad surprising experience and meeting of the other kind

My dog Zuri and I follow the EuroVelo 8 in Croatia further and further south. The views are magnificent, but riding a bike is very exhausting, because we are constantly being overtaken by cars, buses or trucks. Often not without danger. I am quite astonished to discover the green Neretva valley, also called Organgen valley.
We are also allowed to spontaneously sleep at one of the local fruit dealers.
The next day we continue on the EuroVelo 8 to Dubrovnik. Here we are approached by Luc. A Frenchman who rides his solar bicycle along the coast of Europe. We decide to ride together for a while.
